Jesus...

There are times when one encounters, on the internet, bold-faced lies and hyperbole and exagerration so foul and terrible and misleading that one has no choice but to break the silence of the keyboard and speak out, decrying the outright stupidity and misanthropic motivation behind such blog posts as this...

The Next Arcade Fire

Despite my Pentecostal upbringing, I do not see in the Arcade Fire the second coming of Christ, and I've never been overcome with any urge to talk in tongues or roll around the floor during their liveshow, nonetheless, the above post is such a blatant fabrication, so demeaning to the Arcade Fire and Wolf Parade both that it must be exposed.

GrapeJuicePlus Blog

And a little bit of a palate cleanser, so I don't end this post on such a sour note, GrapeJuicePlus' another great mp3 blog to check out, there's some tracks from paisley-undergrounders Three O'Clock...

Oh...I think I'm so, so, sick of all of the up and coming dude-rock bands. Where is this epicenter of all this wriggling mediocrity? Do all these bands immediately get corporate tie-ins with Molson Dry with gigs at Whistler? Puh!

Thanks for the kind words...I love this mp3 blog community that's forming...it's so nice to have others give a nod to another blog. Something I need to do more of I suppose.

Regarding Arcade Fire... Well, yeah, they're good. I like them. However, I haven't run out and bought their CD. Why? Because there are a lot of bands I like more than Arcade Fire, that's why. And I don't know that I will buy their CD.

'nuff said, right?

My bone of contention with that post wasn't that the Arcade Fire are gigantic demi-gods, with the ability to produce music that transcends our putrid mortal coils and uhhh, gives us hope or what not, but rather that it's absurd to use them or Wolf Parade to try to sell this astonishingly shitty band to people. I'm no massive Arcade Fire cheerleader (preferring the gentleman's choice of Wolf Parade as my Montreal hype-group par excellence, thank you) but it seems unfair to hail a group that caused me to momentarily hate the creation of music as the next version of them.

But yes, the mp3blog stuff is astonishing - it's really one of the only things that I've been truly giddy over on the internet, and not felt embarassed about.

Completely understood where you were coming from on your comment. I, unlike you, have no experience with the band in question except for the post which you were commenting on. I just felt compelled to comment on Arcade Fire's BURNING popularity right now.

And I don't mean to come down on them, I've posted about them once, mainly because I was surprised/happy to note that David Byrne got on stage with them, but I felt compelled, for some reason, to state where I stood. Maybe it was the strength of your comments that compelled me, who knows.

Now I'm just rambling.

peace.

i feel that [the?] arcade fire have been overblown and elevated beyond anything that they are worth.

i know you might not be able to see it at this point.

Uhhh, true enough - I don't think I'd disagree with you on that.

jay, who's been calling wintersleep the next arcade fire? don't know where you got that.
and once again, can't believe that you dislike them this much. honestly, don't get it. your opinion though, i respect it. i like them and i will help them as much as i can. so are you calling me sleazy now? guess so.
goodnight,
d.

I just checked out the WINTERSLEEP post on SIXEYES, and the comments. You left out the 'Question Mark', on your post - it wasn't THE NEXT ARCADE FIRE. it was THE NEXT ARCADE FIRE? maybe sixeyes should have said 'Is this The Next Arcade Fire?'
anyway i don't get the hate-on for a band you saw live and they sucked. a lot of bands suck once in a while - there's lots of shit happening on the road, they can't be 'on' every night. i saw arcade fire in hamilton and was not impressed by them live - kinda boring even though i knew every song. i am sure, in fact i am positive, there are people out there who feel about WOLF PARADE the same way you feel about WINTERSLEEP... all due to a shitty live performance.

Oh no, it wasn't that they weren't on, trust me, they were entirely competent musicians and played their songs bang on - it was what they were playing that offended me so...
